Using Ilford DD-X and D76 two separate clarification questions regarding the recommendations found in the Film Developing Cookbook.
Recommendation for DD-X used 1:4:
"Use a minimum of 250mL per 80 sq. in. of film"
Option A: 250mL of concentrate and 2000mL of water for a total of 2250mL of solution. (this makes no sense, so I assume it is B)
Option B: 50mL of concentrate and 200mL of water for a total of 250mL of solution.
Recommendation for D76 1:1:
"Use a minimum of 500mL per 80 sq. in. of film"
Option A: 500mL of concentrate and 500mL of water for a total of 1000mL of solution. (this makes no sense, so I assume it is B)
Option B: 250mL of concentrate and 250mL of water for a total of 500mL of solution.
Answer is B in both cases - correct?
Thanks in advance
Todd

Re: Minimum Developer per 80 sq. in. of film - clarification
Ever since I took Steve's advice in the Cookbook and started to make sure I had 250ml of stock developer my negs have improved remarkably. I use D76 1:1 (stock if developing for salt printing negs) It is now one of my golden rules.

Thanks Markbau, the advice makes sense to me,I am just not sure how to interpret the DD-X recommendation. I am somewhat confident that he means
what I have identified as Option B below, but just want to make sure.

Todd, it should be option B. He's recommending the total volume of the diluted developer, not the amount of stock.
Re: Minimum Developer per 80 sq. in. of film - clarification
I just saw this post. Tim is correct, 1:4 means 1 part developer to 4 parts water to make the desired amount of stock developer, as in option B. If you see it written otherwise in the FDCB let me know.
