Formula #28 Mytol

Post by joglar »

Hi Steve and all,

On reading the formula #28 Mytol on p.244 [the same is valid for the formula #26 of the 3rd Ed. on p. 218) there is a footnote about dissolving the Phenidone in methyl hydrate. I would say "methanol" or methyl alcohol, right?

Best regards,
Jesús

The formula and nomenclature is as Paul Lewis submitted. Paul is Canadian and it may be that the term methyl hydrate is in common use there. That said, a google search for methyl hydrate brings up this:

"Methanol (methyl hydrate) is a colourless liquid with an alcohol-like odour. It is one of the basic chemicals of the organic chemical industry."

So, as with many chemical substances, methanol by any other name will still dissolve Phenidone. :D
Do it in the Dark,
